The Visa procedure for non-EU candidates.

The Admissions department will issue the Certificate of Enrolment in Spanish to accepted non-European Union candidates, with which, combined with the proforma invoice, and the rest of the documents in Sanish, they have to present it at the Spanish Embassy/Consulate in their country of origin.

Non-European candidates must make a personal request for their visa type “D” and submit the required document during their appointment at the Spanish Embassy/Consulate in their country of origin

Usually, after six weeks, the candidate must collect their original visa from the Consulate/Embassy and make sure that all formalities are cleared and settled before coming to Spain.

The following guidelines are for Student Visa Type D application procedure.

Visa Documentation & Visa Appointment Date

In order to start the process, the student needs to contact the Spanish Embassy/Consulate in their country of origin. The student must let them know that he/she wants to make an APPOINTMENT in order to request a STUDENT VISA TYPE D.

The student must consider the following:

* When the student calls for an appointment, they need to ask for a list of documents needed for their VISA. The documentation varies depending on the country.

* A part of the documents required is the Certificate of Enrollment and the Proforma Invoice from the school. Some countries require confirmation that 100% of the tuition has been paid.

The documentation will be given to the student by I.H.M.G.S in the ACCEPTANCE PACKAGE.

The Spanish Consulate/Embassy will set up a date and time for the student to go PERSONALLY. The APPOINTMENT DATE is normally given in about two weeks´ time from the moment the student contacts the Consulate/Embassy. The waiting time for an APPOINTMENT DATE depends on the country of origin.

What happens during the Visa Appointment in the Spanish Consulate/Embassy?

When the student goes to their appointment, they must make sure that they take all the requested documentation from the Spanish Consulate/Embassy. During the appointment, they will submit the VISA APPLICATION. The student will be informed if the documents submitted are complete or not.

* If the VISA APPLICATION is complete, the VISA APPLICATION will be submitted

* If the VISA APPLICATION is not complete, the Consulate/Embassy will request additional documents that will be submitted on another appointment day. After that, the VISA APPLICATION will be submitted.

During the appointment, the student should ask if the Spanish Consulate/Embassy will inform them about the VISA or the student should contact them.

What is the next step?

The application is electronically sent from the Spanish Consulate/Embassy in the student´s country of origin to the Sub-delegation Office in Valencia (the capital of the province where I.H.M.G.S. is located). The Sub-delegation office has 20 days to answer to the consulate. In the meantime, the Sub-delegation office will send a confirmation to the school, checking if the student that is requesting the visa has applied.

After the School´s confirmation, the Sub-delegation has 10 days to reply to the Spanish Consulate/Embassy in the student´s country of origin.

How can I.H.M.G.S. help?

When the School receives a confirmation from the Sub-Delegation office, we can contact the Embassy/Student to inform them and confirm the enrollment of the student in the School.

The personal information of the student is protected by the Spanish Data Protection Law. Therefore, the School cannot request any type of information or assist the student on his/her behalf.

When should the student collect the Student Visa Type D?

In about 6 weeks after the appointment date, the student has to contact the Spanish Consulate/Embassy in their country of origin and ask if the Visa is ready or not. If the student has any problems, they should contact the Admissions Department at I.H.M.G.S and inform us.

How long does it take and what is the price?

The entire process takes around 7 weeks from the time the student has the VISA APPOINTMENT at the Spanish Consulate/Embassy to the time that the student is informed by the Consulate/Embassy about the result. Please consider, that the process could take longer depending on holidays.

The price for the VISA APPLICATION costs differently depending on the student´s country of origin.
